“Through music, we can all call to the ancestors and look to the unborn.”

Traciana Graves

Traciana Graves is a native New Yorker who sings and composes songs in French, Sanskrit, Spanish, Portuguese, Swahili, and English. Voted by The Huffington Post as one of “America’s Most Fearless Women,” Traciana is an internationally acclaimed vocalist, who has spent the past two decades performing and telling stories typically untold around the world through producing music and mindful media.  Whether performing at stadiums, festivals, or cathedrals throughout various continents, she has held fast to her mission to leverage the unique power of music to build cultural bridges between global audiences.

Traciana’s cross-cultural musical artistry began in her childhood. She spent her formative years as a global nomad growing up between Harlem, USA, and Paris, France.  In the process, she discovered the legacy of vocalists such as Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf, Nina Simone, Umm Kulthum, Krishna Dass, and Mariam Makeeba. As she immersed herself in these rich legacies, Traciana taught herself to play the guitar, to explore songwriting, and to nurture her gift of vocal excellence. This foundation led Traciana to become a sought-after background singer for renowned talents like six-time Grammy Award-winning Steel Pulse, Celine Dion, Youssou N’ Dour, Andrew Lloyd Webber and others.

Traciana’s deep passion for exploring the human condition led her to further her studies at the Sorbonne and Georgetown University. Years later, this same passion would also drive her to audition and become the first American accepted into the prestigious National Acting Conservatory, Le Théâtre National de Strasbourg, in France.

After a pain-staking physical loss of her speaking and singing voice,  a battle with life-threatening cancer,  and a 2-year-long hiatus where she was ordered to “not speak” in order to possibly recover her voice,  Traciana discovered how to leverage her practical experiences with the research she achieved during her academic tenure at the SorbonneGeorgetown University, New York University, and her stay at the Ashram for medical recovery. Her personal journey and sparks of enlightenment led her to develop the Fearless Listening ™ Methodology and its more concentrated applications, Fearless Listening TM Leadership and Fearless Listening TM Creativity. The methodologies unlock hidden personal and professional performance potential by helping individuals to realize self-actualization in the midst of fulfilling professional excellence.

As she began to personally apply the methodology to her life and profession, Traciana reveals how she was guided. She shared, “I heard my purpose, which compelled me to broaden the way I create music.” Traciana’s new enlightenment led her to encompass mindful media projects that added layers to the music she created and also that allowed her to begin to listen more deeply to the stories of others. She credits this to leading to a more robust approach to the way she writes, produces, sings, and uses her art to achieve deeper connection with others.

As Traciana has pursued her mission of leveraging music to build cultural bridges that bring together a global audience, she has come to believe two things:

  • First, through music, we can all call to the ancestors and look to the unborn
  • Second, through music, we can derive a path of hope, inspiration, truth, and reflection that unites the best of who we are and can become

Traciana’s Personal Manifesto

During the past two decades, Traciana has come to believe that by “Using the unique power of our voice, we have the power to change the world.”  This belief has compelled her to use her voice in a series of unexpected ways to facilitate the changes she believes are critical to embody. These uncommon ways also include, as a motivational speaker and a multi-media entrepreneur.

PROJECTS

“Through music, we can derive a path of hope, inspiration, truth, and reflection that unites the best of who we are and can become.” – Traciana Graves

Over the past 20 years, Traciana has never stopped making music, regardless of the medium she selected.  Since the initial release of her critically acclaimed debut album, Songs of a Prodigal Daughter, she has honed a multi-layered process for creating multi-faceted expressions of the songs she writes and the stories that she captures.

Emancipated: The Trilogy Volumes (Present)

Traciana is currently writing a three-pronged studio project titled, Emancipated, which features her trademark multi-lingual approach to composing music and lyrics. Volumes 1-3, which have guest appearances from some of Traciana’s favorite musicians from Brazil, Europe, the United States, Africa, and India, is comprised of:

  • Volume I:  MINTY! (The Unspoken & Untold of Araminta Ross)
  • Volume II:  Psalms of A Prodigal Daughter
  • Volume III: Shavasana & Song

Fearless Listening™: The Unspoken Project (Current)

The Fearless Listening ™ Projects feature music Traciana has created and performed in various mindful media formats. It extends the digital stories she has produced, which can be found on The Visionary Leader Network.

The Say Something Beautiful Sessions (2014-Present)

The Say Something Beautiful ™ Campaign is a digital storytelling project that evolved from Traciana Graves customizing the Fearless Listening ™ Methodology to create a scaffolded anti-bullying initiative, Project Bully Free Zone, for the workplace, higher education, and schools throughout the country.

As Traciana created civility training and events for tens of thousands of participants, she recognized the need to leverage the Fearless Listening Methodology further to foster greater empathy, vulnerability, and positive psychology that were necessary to create greater safety and inclusion.  To date, Say Something Beautiful has been featured on live televised events and shared partnerships nationwide with leading organizations, including the WNBA, One Billion Rising, the Knicks Organization, and has been shared throughout the country with leading universities, organizations, companies, homeless shelters, underserved schools, and prisons.

Say Something Beautiful features curriculum, original songs, word, video, and audio soundscape that chronicle participants’ stories.

Songs For Life and Change Sessions  (2008-2012)

Songs For Life and Change is a music project featuring songs that originated while Traciana was writing curriculum and developing programs for underserved schools, orphanages, and refugee camps around the globe.  This project features nuanced storytelling through original songs that are inspired by the journal entries of gifted participants, in order for their voices and stories to be heard.

Songs of A Prodigal Daughter (2003)

A true reflection on the essence of a bracing singer/songwriter Traciana Graves…

Acclaimed Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid took an interest in Traciana’s unique musical viewpoint and among other things, introduced her to producer V. Jeffrey Smith of The Family Stand (Des ree, Paula Abdul, Heather Headley). Together, Smith and Traciana crafted an album (based in the alternative soulful pop akin to artists like India Arie, Seal, Les Nubians) that is a montage of what the world has seen from many places. This musical bed provides the perfect vehicle for Traciana to express herself which she does in her first nature languages of English, French, Spanish, Swahili, and Portuguese.

PRAISE

One habitually thinks of World Music as a term that covers all music that is not part of mainstream, popular, or classical music, and that has some kind of “ethnic” component. The term is used primarily as a marketing or classificatory device. It sometimes refers to any type of foreign music, especially in a foreign language.

Traciana’s music has been described as “a haven soaked in cultural originality, a cultural bridge bringing together a global audience.” Traciana skillfully merges the sounds of Africa, America, Europe, India, and the Middle East. There is a distinctive quality to her music that articulates more than just her individual journey and resonates with her listeners. It is a powerful and soulful vocal style that has brought her international acclaim. In the process, she has been praised for “redefining World Music.”

My Personal Core Manifesto

I believe that it is essential to cultivate Fearless Listening ™ daily to embody the most profound elements of what makes us remarkably designed to fulfill both our individual purpose and professional endeavors. This is my philosophy, mission, and purpose that is the cornerstone of every action I take.  I developed The Fearless Listening ™ Methodology as a powerful process for unlocking the hidden human potential within — including my own.  I also believe that “we are all connected by breath. And through breath, music is our human ability to focus our intentions through sound vibration”. I developed the  One Sound On technique, which interweaves song, music, story share,  and vibration in order to create Fearless Listening Community and Embodiment. One Sound On transcends language and our own barriers thereby invoking our core connections. You can leverage this technique to transform the environment and cultures around you and yourself.

A Mentor.

A Mindful Media Entrepreneur.

And The Creator of the Fearless Listening™  Methodology.

I have deeper roots as a native New Yorker who grew up between Harlem & Paris. I am a tea aficionado, an unsuccessfully recovering Virgo, and the mother of a tweenage son.

MY PERSONAL CORE MANIFESTO

I believe that it is essential to cultivate Fearless Listening ™ daily to embody the most profound elements of what makes us remarkably designed to fulfill both our individual purpose and professional endeavors. Now I am sharing how to unlock hidden personal and professional performance potential.

HOW I HAVE FULFILLED MY PERSONAL QUEST

Voted by the Huffington Post as one of “America’s Most Fearless Women” for the work I have done in leadership, workforce, and personal development, my insights are regularly featured on national media outlets.

I believe that “Using the unique power of our voice, we have the power to change the world.” During the past two decades, I have been on a personal quest to do so by using my voice in a series of uncommon ways to facilitate the changes I believe are critical to embody.  This quest has led me to become an internationally acclaimed vocalist, a motivational speaker, an organizational development consultant,  a mindful media producer and a digital activist.

MUSICAL ARTISTRY

MY BONAFIES

Along the way, I discovered how to best leverage my practical experiences with the research I accomplished during my academic tenure at the Sorbonne, Georgetown University, and New York University. MY JOURNEY

Cornerstone moments in my journey have been composed of my doing deep inner work while serving at ashrams throughout the world as well as a two-year silent meditation retreat, during which I first discovered how to fearlessly listen within to make peace with all of the events that were a part of my life.

THE TWO INSIGHTS BY WHICH I LIVE

While fulfilling my quest to cultivate Fearless Listening ™ (to embody the most profound elements of what makes us remarkably designed to fulfill both our individual purpose and professional endeavors), I developed two key insights by which I live:

  • First, it is essential to achieve self-actualization in the midst of realizing professional excellence.
  • Second, to develop and sustain a cult following, it is critical to developing Listening Leadership™ Cultures, as we cannot ignore the humanness that is at play in every move and decision each of us makes.

In 2019, I founded my most recent and boldest venture – The Visionary Leader Network™ (The VLNetwork™). ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE

A Note From Founder  of  The VLNetwork& One Sound One Technique  TG

HI, I AM TRACIANA!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN THE ONE SOUND ON TECHNIQUE. I AM SO GLAD YOU’RE HERE!

I believe we are all connected by breath. And through breath, music is our human ability to focus our intentions through sound vibration in order to build our empathy and create social connections.   One Sound On is a technique I have developed, based on music psychology that creates Fearless Listening Community and Embodiments through song, music, story share,  and vibration. Music is pleasurable and plays a key role in our well-being, both mental and physical.    Furthermore, in a study, the music changes our brain circuits- to be able to build empathy, trust, and cooperation. This is why music is prevalent in every culture in the world. In order to create music, whether listening or making it, you need to be actively engaged in these skills. Music has been shown to create oxycontin in your brain. A study has shown if you see images and stories while listening to music it music like food creates cultural cohesion, and you can build a community out of music.

Through guided vocal connection, meditation, song, sound, and story sharing, One Sound On transcends language and our own barriers thereby invoking our core connections. You can leverage this technique to transform the environment and cultures around you and yourself.  One Sound On harnesses the power of community which we make available in our

ISSUES

Dear Student Leaders and Advisors,

UNPRECEDENTED events have impacted us on so many levels. The WAY higher educational institutions RESPOND to these dynamic times is CRITICAL!

Creating safe and engaged cultures for college in the virtual and in-person the environment is key to molding our future.

The media is quick to highlight incidents of abuse in higher education, putting colleges at risk of litigation and lawsuits that can cost millions and cripple your college.

College incivility, in all its forms- harassment, discrimination, hazing, sexual assault, and poor cyber-conduct, is an epidemic that affects every campus around the country. As the nation’s leading institutions, colleges are often in the spotlight when incidents like these occur on their campuses or in their virtual school community.

The Pandemic

Due to COVID-19, colleges have had to navigate new learning conditions like having to transition to more of an online platform.

These dynamic and socially unrestful times require every institute to foster a Fearless Listening TM campus culture, and Fearless Listening Leadership TM training to address emerging issues that have been ignored previously.

Now universities have to determine how to teach incoming freshmen best practices for civility, student engagement, and other socially responsible behaviors. This includes ways to redefine and navigate in this new learning environment.

By building student engagement and integrating civility for students who have opposing viewpoints, students and universities will have a national and global impact.

Our solution

We offer modified training based on the highly successful work that we have done to reach students who have opposing viewpoints and who feel lost and disenfranchised from the new narrative of social injustices that is at the forefront.

The training teaches students how to be heard by the authorities of the campuses who seem to have turned a deaf ear to their sentiments. It also promotes student engagement that integrates this new era of students coming together to create change.

Student Engagement and Civility in Cyberlearning Environments

As severe as these circumstances can be as ‘stand-alone’ challenges for any campus, they are more than ever, exacerbated by shifts in the campus environment. The gradual change from in-person to virtual learning has not eliminated the unrest that arises from such harsh realities but has allowed even more uncertainty for schools that have adopted hybrid models of virtual and in-person campus environments.

Along with these challenges, students also fall victim to criticism when they choose to express their discontentment for how they’ve been treated.  Their expression is often communicated through social media and other virtual means, broadening their exposure to additional potential attacks.

The Critical Role of Professional Development

Fostering civility, personal civic responsibility, and student engagement, during a time when so many individuals engage in poor cyber-conduct will help administrators address and resolve issues that have been previously ignored.

It requires creating trust between students, administrators, and faculty that can only be achieved by integrating Fearless Listening TM. It is also important to create best practices for these key and crucial conversations.

I want to encourage the conversations and voices of students.  I want to teach students that there is value in their decision to listen to voices that are unlike their own, yet to meet those voices with civility, kindness, and engagement.

From marshaling the unrest that will precede and follow the election season, to helping students debrief this unprecedented time in history, there is value in being part of campus.   Faculty and administration must engage in Fearless Listening TM to allow their students to integrate their voices into their studies and campus experience. Their stories must be told!

Without guidance, fostering student engagement and civility can seem daunting. My team and I are dedicated to providing resources that are proven to work. You can find resources that are tailored to:

  •       Prevent incivility on campuses as students begin to find their voice to address the historical events that are shifting the world. To learn more click here.

  •       Provide training, workshops, and prevention resources to address harassment, discrimination, recreational drug and sex solicitation, hazing, sexual assault, and cyber-bullying, for students and staff.  To learn more click here.

It is our responsibility to create safe and engaged campuses. When we unite against incivility, everyone wins. Allow the resources and expertise offered on this site to serve YOUR college’s student body, faculty, and student organizations.

Highest Regards,

WORKSHOPS & PRESENTATIONS

FEARLESS LISTENING ™  & CIVILITY  CAMPUS WORKSHOPS

Traciana Graves’ “Say Something Beautiful: Civility in Action and Fearless Listening ™  programs leverage song, storytelling, experiential learning, and multimedia to encourage students to find their unique voice and to listen to voices unlike their own.  These workshops address the key pain points that colleges and universities are facing, along with the rest of the world. However, the workshops focus more pointedly on how to address these challenges from the college environment.

Current events and movements like #BlackLivesMatter, the COVID-19 pandemic, social responsibility, online cyber misconduct, turbulent political climate with upcoming elections, race relations, and more are the headline of every news story.  They are on the minds of half of the working population, and they are in the hearts and souls of college and university students who stand tall on the front lines of protests for various causes.

During the current pandemic, the challenges of instilling appropriate social distancing guidelines are critical and this population is already clearly ignoring this norm with crippling consequences.

The program is particularly geared toward the needs and interests of students and advisors active in:

  •       Residence Life
  •       Greek Life
  •       Athletics
  •       Women’s Studies
  •       Health and Wellness
  •       Counseling
  •       Diversity/Tolerance Councils
  •       LGBTQ+-Straight Alliance

Workshops can be ‘stand-alone’ or customized into a series to meet the fluid landscape of current conditions that affect campuses, faculty, students, and their future, including:

 CIVILITY IN ACTION!

As COVID-19 awareness and social distancing have infiltrated campuses across the nation, it is critical to promote campus civility and other necessary behavior. Incoming freshmen, other students, administrators and faculty will all face realities that have uniquely impactful consequences. To deter the potentially negative impact of college incivility, this workshop benefits students and the campus community.  Traciana Graves shares key strategies to empower students to share their unique voices in their various roles around campus as they simultaneously benefit from a campus where their peers are doing the same.

5 KEYS TO BUILDING STRONG VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON COMMUNITIES

The Fearless Listening College Community must be determined to create unity, the ability to be heard and to creatively come together to broker change that is needed.

There is a harsh era of intolerance that plagues the campus environment.  We see this evidenced even more as students across the nation have stood on both sides of the social distancing spectrum.  We watch media and other reporters try to capture the unrest that students are facing related to the COVID-19 pandemic, social responsibility, online cyber misconduct, turbulent political climate with upcoming elections, race relations, and more.

A large part of why this unrest is prevalent is the college community is its unyielding willingness to listen to voices unlike their own.

Resolving these challenges is particularly difficult at this time due to the various focus-areas that college students are compelled to address. However, failure to bring these things to the forefront will undoubtedly result in much more impactful consequences.

Fearless Listening College Community is a program that encompasses listening to promote civility. This highly engaging presentation tackles critical campus-related issues, such as creating a safe environment that appreciates, respects, and encompasses all demographics. Traciana shares strategies to empower students to share their unique voices in their various roles around campus, as they simultaneously benefit from a campus where their peers are doing the same.

EMPOWHERMENT: DON’T CALL ME A B–

In The DEAR COLLEAGUE LETTER sent out in the spring of 2011, the US Department of Civil Rights recognized that women have unequal access to higher education. Due to sexual harassment, dating violence and discrimination, women continue to face unparalleled adversities throughout their college experience.
